Science and Technology for the Community: Empowering Housewives through the Production of Aromatherapy Candles Made from Used Cooking Oil

This community service program (Iptek bagi Masyarakat) is way to empower housewives through the utilization of used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles as an environmentally friendly and economically valuable household waste management effort. The background of this activity based on environmental issues in RT 03 RW 03, Amir Mahmud Urban Village, Gunung Anyar District, Surabaya City, particularly related to improper waste management and the disposal of used cooking oil. Based on questionnaire results, most residents still dispose of used cooking oil into drainage systems (76.2%) and do not consistently separate organic and inorganic waste.

The method used in this program is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which actively involves the community in all stages, including problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The activities were carried out through socialization on waste management, training on the production of aromatherapy candles, and assistance in the production and packaging processes.

The results indicate there is increasing in knowledge and skills among housewives in processing used cooking oil into valuable products. moreover, the program enhances community awareness of proper waste management and creates opportunities for environmentally-based small businesses. Therefore, this program is expected to contribute to improving environmental quality and community welfare in a sustainable manner.

The community service program titled "Early Saving Movement through Education and Celengan Practice at Educational Institutions in Simongagrok Village" was implemented at SDN 1 Simongagrok (23 students in grades IV–VI) and MI Tarbiyatul Athfal (20 students in grade V) to enhance early childhood financial literacy. Utilizing a blended learning approach—PowerPoint presentations, animated videos, interactive discussions, and celengan decoration practice—this activity aimed to provide understanding of saving concepts/benefits, distinguish between needs and wants, and foster habits of regularly setting aside pocket money. Results showed high student enthusiasm (80–90% active participation), improved understanding up to 75–85% (pre-post observation), and increased saving motivation through personalized celengan, although challenges with specific saving goals persist. The novelty lies in integrating periodic evaluations and personal targets, aligned with similar community service programs (2022–2025) reporting 74–96% improvements. Recommendations include teacher monitoring and curriculum integration for sustainability. The program contributes to character education in frugality and financial discipline in rural contexts.

IMPLEMENTASI MESIN PENGADUK ADONAN BAKPIA SEMI-OTOMATIS UNTUK MENINGKATKAN EFISIENSI PRODUKSI PADA PT PIA JUWARA SATOE YOGYAKARTA

Proses produksi bakpia pada PT Pia Juwara Satoe Yogyakarta masih mengalami kendala pada tahap pengadukan adonan yang dilakukan secara manual sehingga membutuhkan waktu lebih lama dan tenaga kerja lebih besar. Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan proses produksi kurang efisien dan mempengaruhi konsistensi adonan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan mengimplementasikan mesin pengaduk adonan bakpia semi-otomatis guna meningkatkan efisiensi produksi mitra. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui observasi, penerapan mesin, dan pendampingan penggunaan mesin kepada mitra. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan mesin pengaduk semi-otomatis mampu mempercepat proses pengadukan, menghasilkan adonan yang lebih merata, serta mengurangi beban kerja manual. Selain itu, penerapan mesin juga meningkatkan efektivitas dan efisiensi tenaga kerja dalam proses produksi bakpia. Dengan demikian, implementasi mesin pengaduk semi-otomatis dapat menjadi solusi teknologi tepat guna untuk mendukung peningkatan efisiensi produksi pada PT Pia Juwara Satoe Yogyakarta.

SOCIALIZATION OF AMELIORANTS AND ORGANIC MATERIALS TO INCREASE SOYBEAN PRODUCTION IN FARMER GROUPS IN KALIMAS VILLAGE, WEST KALIMANTAN

Soybean is an important food commodity in Indonesia; however, domestic production remains insufficient to satisfy national demand. The utilization of acid sulfate tidal lands through the implementation of a saturated soil (waterlogged) system offers a potential strategy to enhance production, although such lands are constrained by high acidity and the presence of toxic elements. The use of ameliorants in combination with organic materials is essential for improving soil physical and chemical properties. Kalimas Village presents considerable potential for soybean cultivation, yet farmers’ knowledge and capacity regarding appropriate cultivation practices and ameliorant application are still limited.This community service program was designed to improve farmers’ knowledge and technical skills by providing both theoretical instruction and practical training on soybean cultivation under a saturated soil system, along with ameliorant application. The program was conducted through several stages, including preparation, outreach, technology dissemination, and subsequent monitoring and evaluation. The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in farmers’ understanding, with 73% of participants recognizing the function of ameliorants and 90% demonstrating comprehension of their application methods. Furthermore, 90% of farmers expressed willingness to adopt the use of ameliorants and organic inputs in soybean cultivation.

PENGUATAN KOMPETENSI ANALISIS DATA MELALUI SOSIALISASI MODEL-MODEL REGRESI DAN IMPLEMENTASINYA PADA MAHASISWA PERGURUAN TINGGI

Kemampuan analisis data menjadi kompetensi penting bagi mahasiswa khususnya dalam bidang agribisnis yang semakin berbasis pada pengambilan keputusan berbasis data. Namun demikian, pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap model-model statistik terutama regresi masih cenderung terbatas pada aspek teoritis. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi analisis data mahasiswa melalui sosialisasi dan pelatihan model-model regresi yang meliputi regresi linier, regresi logit dan regresi non linier. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa Program Studi Agribisnis, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Mataram dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 22 orang. Metode yang digunakan meliputi tahapan persiapan, pretest, pelatihan, posttest dan evaluasi. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk serta Paired Sample T-Test. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan nilai rata-rata dari 61,591 pada pretest menjadi 79,318 pada posttest, disertai dengan penurunan standar deviasi dari 10,844 menjadi 6,229. Hasil uji normalitas menunjukkan bahwa data berdistribusi normal (p-value > 0,05). Uji Paired Sample T-Test menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara pretest dan posttest (p-value = 0,000 < 0,05) yang mengindikasikan bahwa pelatihan yang diberikan berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap peningkatan kompetensi mahasiswa. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan pelatihan berbasis praktik dan integrasi berbagai model regresi efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman analisis data mahasiswa.

The CERDIK Movement: A Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Approach to Non-Communicable

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia and are largely associated with unhealthy lifestyles, including physical inactivity, unhealthy dietary patterns, smoking, inadequate rest, and poor stress management. Limited public knowledge regarding NCD risk factors remains a major challenge in disease prevention. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge on NCD prevention through the implementation of the CERDIK program, which consists of regular health check-ups, avoiding cigarette smoke, engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a balanced healthy diet, getting adequate rest, and managing stress effectively. The program employed health education through interactive lectures, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, educational media distribution, and evaluation using pretest and posttest assessments. The activity was conducted in collaboration with a Community Health Center (Puskesmas) as the implementing partner. The evaluation results indicated that prior to the intervention, all participants (100%) had a low level of knowledge, whereas after the educational intervention, all participants (100%) achieved a high level of knowledge. These findings demonstrate that the CERDIK health education program effectively improved community knowledge regarding NCD prevention. This program is expected to serve as an initial step in promoting sustainable healthy lifestyle behaviors, reducing NCD risk factors, and strengthening health promotion and disease prevention programs at the primary healthcare level. Furthermore, collaboration between universities and Community Health Centers is expected to enhance the sustainability of community empowerment initiatives in NCD prevention.
